Volunteer Orientation Sessions
We host training sessions for our volunteers at the beginning of September and January every year.
Volunteers can commit as much time as them have available to volunteer with us, there is no minimum. We understand that our volunteers juggle other commitments and responsibilities. Our only ask is that volunteers keep us updated about changes to shift they sign up for.
Training consists of 2 components:
In-person kitchen training and;
Online training to be completed before your first kitchen shift
If you’re interested in volunteering with us, please fill out this form with your name and email.
Kitchen Shifts
Recruitment for kitchen volunteers is typically at the beginning of each semester. All new volunteers must complete orientation. Kitchen shifts are typically 2-hours long on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays between 10am and 3pm (occasionally a little later for special events) at the SSMU building. Due to limited kitchen space, we usually have 2-3 volunteers per shift.
Typical tasks: unloading groceries; processing, organizing and preserving ingredients; meal preparation; packing and distributing meals; cleaning.
Status: active
Garden Shifts
Garden shifts are drop-ins and will vary from week to week. Please check the calendar for garden shifts. No training is required. Visit our gardening page for more info.
